Sue Vernon is an Educational Consultant and President of Social Perspective. She received her doctorate in Developmental and Child Psychology and has been working with individuals with exceptionalities (such as Learning Disabilities, Behavioral Disorders, Asperger's Syndrome), educators, direct care providers, and parents for over 35 years. Dr. Vernon retired as Director of Research and Development for Edge Enterprises, Inc. (a small research-based company) after 19 years. She has been the Principal Investigator on 14 research grants from the Department of Education, the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, and the National Institute of Mental Health. She is the first author on 21 published research-based products: nine instructional manuals for teachers in inclusive general education classes, eight professional development CD programs for teachers, four multimedia interactive CD programs for at-risk youth related to communication and social skills, and has authored or co-authored numerous articles and textbook chapters. She has designed and validated communication skills instruction, curricula for high-poverty populations, and has developed and conducted parenting workshops and professional development workshops for school personnel and staff providing support services for adults with developmental disabilities. She has served twice as a National Institute of Mental Health, Small Business Research Review Ad Hoc Committee Member in Washington, D.C., and once on the Small Business Scientific Review Biobehavioral and Behavioral Process Review Group. She was a National Program Committee Member for the Council for Exceptional Children, and served on the Board of Directors for three Teaching-Family homes in Kansas.

She is a certified Teaching-Parent, consultant, professional development specialist, evaluator of staff in residential treatment programs for youth offenders and other at-risk adolescents and was co-founder of a child placing agency funded initially through a contract with Father Flanagan's Boys Town and the Michigan Department of Mental Health. Dr. Vernon completed the Professional Biofeedback Certificate Program through the Stens Corporation and Biofeedback Training Institute. She is a licensed instructor for the Resilient Educator program and a Certified Personal Resilience Coach through the Institute of HeartMath. The HeartMath program introduces tools and techniques to help individuals manage stress, anxiety and anger. She was an adjunct research associate at the KU Center for Research on Learning, Dept. of Special Education, a guest lecturer in graduate-level university courses in the Department of Education at the University of Kansas, and an adjunct instructor teaching undergraduate-level psychology courses at the United States Disciplinary Barracks, Fort Leavenworth, KS through Missouri Western State University. In addition, she is a State of Kansas Supreme Court Approved Mediator (with a specialty in parent/adolescent mediation).
